Do I have to have an attorney prepare my will or can I?

I have prepared my will using my mother's will as a guide. Do I need to give this to an attorney for it to be legal or just have it notarized? If not, how does one go about "reading my will" when I die? Who does he read it to? I have made my son the beneficiary, but will he need to get with an attorney after my death?
