Is this why we are in this financial mess?

i agree. My gripe is that we are told to pay mostly with credit card, and if anything goes flip side up, the credit card company will pick up the bill? Why would for instance my credit card pay me compensation if the holiday company goes bust? Not nice for the travel company and not nice for me, but why the credit card folks paying up?
