Does this count as volunteer work?

In my senior year of high school, half my day was spent at my regular school and the other half I spent at a vocational school where I was taking a CNA cl(just in case I couldn't afford college). As a part of the cl, I had to work at a nursing home for about 3 months. I didn't get paid or anything. So does that count as volunteer work. I'm trying to use everything I've got to get scholarships.
