What are the differences between a Pomeranian and American Eskimo Dog?

I adopted a 4 month old Pomeranian from a puppy store (yes I know the dangers of them; ie: puppy mills).He's now 5 1/2 months old and pushing 10 pounds. He's white with a soft rust color on his ears and down his back, but almost all an off white color with a longer, thinner, silver top coat. His nose is slightly longer than I believe a pom's should be but all the other characteristics are there. I think I have to wait until he's a bit older when his adult coat comes in to make a judgement, but is it possible to get these two breeds confused?
